About the Artist:
Simen Johan is a photographer, filmmaker, and sculptor primarily working in contemporary photography. He gained recognition in the early 90s as one of the first photographers to experiment with digital manipulation alongside traditional photography techniques. His work spans various genres, from portraiture to landscapes, and he operates intuitively, aiming to raise existential questions in his art.
The exhibited works include elements of nature captured in diverse locations around the world, such as zoos, wild natural settings, lava fields, and deserts. The images blend natural wilderness with artificial elements.
Simen Johan is not a classical nature photographer but rather a conceptual artist who incorporates elements of nature—such as flora, fauna, and landscapes—into cohesive compositions using digital manipulation. His intention is to reveal to the viewer the layers, contradictions, and meanings within his work, rather than presenting a singular, concrete image.
