Artist Wang Chen shows behind the scenes of "Fractured Delights"

Wang Chen

In Wang Chen's captivatingly colorful work "Fractured Delights," traditional craftsmanship meets the rich possibilities of digital technology, juxtaposing ancient, inherent roots with contemporary culture and life.

The Chinese-born artist reimagines landscapes in video installation, which is tied to the complex experiences that underpin the shifting self-identity of migrants. The installation not only narrates the physical movement from one place to another but also the unceasing internal journey, encompassing the continuous adaptation of a person in both earthly and spatial dimensions. Exhibition visitors are guided into an immersive virtual world and prompted to reflect on social issues.

The video’s details are handcrafted and then digitally layered, piece by piece. Take a closer look at how Wang Chen unveils the behind-the-scenes of the creative process:

"Fractured Delights" is open until September 8. At the exhibition's closing, Triinu Soikmets, Leho Rubis, and Maret Nukke will discuss Japanese and Chinese photo and video art.
