Book premier: Riho Sibul "Kuulaps"

November 20

Riho Sibul

The book launch will take place on November 20th, on Riho Sibul's second death anniversary, at Fotografiska.

The memoir of beloved musician Riho Sibul, "Kuulaps" (Moonchild), is now available in bookstores. The book launch will be held on the second anniversary of the cherished artist's passing. According to the book's authors, Vladislav Koržets and Harri Rinne, "Kuulaps" tells the story of an entire generation of musicians. It provides a comprehensive overview of Riho Sibul’s creative journey and music.

“This book is about Riho Sibul, a person and a creator who touched so many with both his music and his unique essence. The idea to compile a memoir arose among Riho’s friends shortly after his passing. To date, over 100 people have shared their memories and recollections for this book,” says Vladislav Koržets.

However, this is not just a memoir but also a biography that captures Riho's life from boyhood to his death. It reflects his self-expression as a guitarist, singer, and composer, as well as his relationships with a wide circle of friends and the world at large. This is not a glossy portrayal—Riho had his darker traits: at times, he could be grumpy, moody, or sharply ironic—traits he himself disapproved of and tried to overcome. Over the years, he grew increasingly mellow. The memories in this book reveal Riho’s various facets: authenticity and honesty both in life and on stage, vast knowledge, a love of poetry, a brilliant memory, a sense of enjoyment, a certain aristocratic air, a sense of humor, ineptitude in mundane matters, a deep connection with friends, his passion for hunting records and shoes, and more.

Many contemporaries speak of Riho as an extraordinary personality, even a genius at times, but this book strives to avoid excessive glorification so that the real Riho Sibul—the person we loved and continue to love—is not obscured. Hopefully, this love also shines through in the book.

A total of 120 people share their memories and thoughts about Riho Sibul and his music in the book. Among those featured are Hardi Volmer, Jaanus Nõgisto, Juku-Kalle Raid, Ain Varts, Arvo Haasma, Mari Jürjens, Jaak Ahelik, Ivo Linna, Immo Mihkelson, Ilmar Trull, Märten Kross, Peeter Volkonski, Priit Kuulberg, Raul Vaigla, Sven Grünberg, Tõnis Mägi, Tõnu Timm, Toomas Tiivel, Vaiko Eplik, Valdeko Sibul, Villu Kangur, and many others.

The book is published by Pilgrim Publishing House.
