Fotografiska Masterclass: Henriette Sabroe Ebbesen & artistic self-portrait
May 24–25
At the beginning of the summer season, Fotografiska will host the exhibition Kaleidoscope by Danish artist Henriette Sabroe Ebbesen. The exhibition blurs the boundary between photography and painting, reality and fantasy, while exploring the human psyche and body. Ebbesen, who is trained as a doctor, creates visually rich works that resemble small scientific experiments, investigating how the human body, mind, and world can be visualized and interpreted through the viewer’s perception and gaze.
Conceptually, Ebbesen’s works often revolve around identity and the subconscious, with studies of the psyche, senses, and body richly reflected in her creations. These are expressed in fragmented, decaying faces and distorted nude bodies, Daliesque still lifes, and self-portraits.
Masterclass on May 24–25
To mark the opening of the exhibition, Henriette Sabroe Ebbesen will be in Estonia, offering a rare opportunity for photography enthusiasts and photographers to participate in a two-day practical, inspiring, and developmental masterclass, led by Henriette herself.
The masterclass will focus on creating self-portraits from an artistic perspective. On the first day, Henriette will introduce the use of self-portraiture in photography, reflecting on works created by various artists throughout history. She will also share her personal experiences, offering tips and tricks, and showcasing her captivating self-portraits that play with perception and the senses. The artist will also give a private tour of her newly opened exhibition. In the afternoon, all participants will have the opportunity to create photographic self-portraits with Henriette’s guidance and support throughout the afternoon. On the second day, all the self-portraits created during the masterclass will be presented, followed by group feedback guided by Henriette.
The masterclass is suitable for both photography enthusiasts and professional photographers. While the focus will be on self-portraiture, the skills and inspiration gained can also be applied broadly to portrait photography.
