Artist hour with Emilia Bergmark-Jiménez: „To be Born and to Give Birth“
10th of October 18:00
Where do we go to bring our children home? In every birth, there is a moment when the birthing person seems to vanish – no longer a human being, but an immeasurable force of nature.
At Fotografiska, Swedish photographer Emilia Bergmark-Jiménez’s exhibition To Be Born and To Give Birth offers a raw, honest, and intimate look at the moments where both life and parenthood begin. The photographs reveal the physical and everyday, while the artist’s reflections reach into the primal and the metaphysical – where the real and the poetic merge into an exhibition in which birth is both a testimony and a journey.
At the opening tour, visitors have the chance to experience the exhibition through the artist’s own eyes and stories. The author’s words and perspective reveal the works in new ways, each stop along the way like a small hidden tale that would otherwise remain unheard. Bergmark-Jiménez also shares insights into her creative process and the inspirations that led her to capture the origins of life. This engaging and inspiring encounter with a remarkable artist adds a new dimension to the exhibition and offers the audience the rare opportunity to ask questions directly.
Exhibition opening October 9–10
The opening of To Be Born and To Give Birth brings two special events to Fotografiska. On Thursday, October 9 at 18:00, Fotografiska Members are invited to an opening conversation with artist Emilia Bergmark-Jiménez, joined by Pauline Benthede, Global Vice President of Artistic Direction and Exhibitions at Fotografiska. On Friday, October 10 at 18:00, the exhibition continues with a public special tour led by the artist herself. Through her stories and perspective, the works reveal new layers of meaning — each stop along the way like a small hidden tale that might otherwise go unheard.
